1950s Wedding Dresses
1950s wedding dresses are definitely with a capital “W”! The silhouette is romantic and extreme, with a curvaceous bust, tiny waist and the fullest of full skirts. Not so much “does my bum look big in this?” but “does my waist look small?”! They are often frothy and magical.
Imported Chantilly lace is the epitome of 1950s Chic. Yards of tulle, stiff taffeta and elegant brocade also make more than just a passing appearance. Illusion necklines showing a hint of décolletage, boat necklines with low backs and dainty scalloped edged V necks all make the shoulders look wider and the waist smaller. Cocktail or Tea length dresses in a palette of pastel shades with Buttercup, Cloud Blue and Blush all being favourites: looking fabulous in the new technicolour photographs!
Women are firmly back in the home being domestic Goddesses. Wedding dress are now more about creating a dream and looking like Doris Day, Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly.
